ABSTRACT

Malignant skin tumors are the most common human cancers in general, their incidence is steadily increasing due to longer life and behavioral habits, especially repeated sun exposure. We describe a series of 150 cases of skin tumors between October 1995 and January 2007. Most tumors are at the head. The age of the patients ranged from 10-75 years. Oncologic resection must meet specific margins for each type of tumor. The reconstruction is made after histological confirmation. Re We regret no serious complications postoperatively . One case of recurrence in a spinocellular carcinoma of the cheek, 1 year after treatment, is to report. If the vast majority of skin cancer have a good prognosis, their recurrent and multiple character and the fact that they affect more elderly population are so brittle they still represent a serious public health problem . Basocellular carcinomas are the most frequent tumors, they are slow growing, mostly local, which virtually never metastasize . Spinocellular carcinomas have a much more aggressive local development and can metastasize . Melanomas are the most dangerous malignant cutaneous tumors. Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans never metastasis, its evolution is slow, his aggressiveness is local but has a tendency to relapse .The treatment of malignant skin tumors is surgical in the majority of cases. Oncologic resection must meet specific margins for each type of tumor. The cover is made after histological confirmation, it uses a skin graft or local flap coverage

ABSTRACT

The authors report on a retrospective study about 1000 cases of patients hospitalized in a department of adult visceral surgery in order to evaluate the importance of the systematic preoperative complete physical examination and laboratory testing. The blood grouping has been realized for all the patients where as only 37 patients have been transfused. The rate of prothrombine [TP] is abnormal in 2 cases [0,2%]. The creatinine and the blood urea have been abnormal, respectively in 9,25% and 8,9% of the cases, but without any influence on the decision of the intervention. The fasting blood glucose showed 0,2% of asymptomatic diabetus. The thoracic radiography has been abnormal in 17,3% of the cases, but it has differed the intervention only in 0,7% of the cases. The electrocardiogram influenced the decision to operate only in 1,16% of the cases. We conclude from this study that we must abandon the pre-operative systematic complete physical examination. The interogatory and the clinic examination realized during a per-anesthesic consultation permit a judicious joice of complementary examinations

ABSTRACT

Twenty five cases of neurological complications of postexposure rabies vaccination with sheep brain vaccine inactivated with betapropionolacton are reported. The duration of interval between the first dose of vaccine and onset of neurological manifestations is 11,5 days. Central nervous involvement [more frequently myelitis than encephalitis] is more frequent [87%] than peripheral nervoeus system involvment [13%]. Isolated or associated lymphocytic meningitis is observed in 61% of cases. Cell culture vaccines do not contain: myeline which is respoensible for these accidents and have therefore the least incidence of complications. They should be used according to WHO recommendations. Meanwhile, vaccine indication should be carefully evaluated, vaccination should be discontinued when neurological complications occur, and replaced by a cell culture rabies vaccine

ABSTRACT

Twenty nine patients with Gram negative urinary tract infection have received gentamicin in a single daily dose of 2,5 mg per kilogram of body weight for 10 days. Follow up is based on bacteriologic and biologic data and on dosage of gentamicin. The mean values of gentamicin levels obtained in blood and urine are efficient and non toxic. In 14% of cases, failure of treatment is due to a local cause of urinary tract infection. A single daily dose of gentamicin is efficient and non toxic if adapted to the patient's weight
